Hurricane Melissa made landfall in southwest Jamaica with winds near 183 mph, knocking out power to more than half a million people and submerging entire communities. Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared a national disaster as the powerful storm left severe flooding, damaged hospitals, and widespread devastation before moving toward Cuba.
