Gerald Finzi's "Dies Natalis" is a setting of texts by the 17th century poet Thomas Traherne, depicting both the first sensations of a child as it enters the world, and life's tarnishing experience of the innocence of childhood.
In this recording the "Intrada" is played by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Hill.
Mary Cassatt was an American artist who lived most of her adult life in France. She was described as one of "les trois grandes dames", (the three great ladies), of Impressionism, alongside Marie Bracquemond and Berthe Morisot.
