Over his 27-year career, he has spent at least tens of thousands of hours interacting with patients, and the principle of ‘knowing the ordinary to embrace the extraordinary’ has always been an integral part of his life. Huang Qitang believes that dry, theoretical knowledge is the least useful; only those ‘wet,’ experiential insights into life hold true value. From his humble beginnings in a poverty-stricken mountain village to where he is today, he still remembers the tears his father shed to pay for his tuition. This is a path he has walked himself, not something he has made up.
