In this video, we take a closer look at two essential integrated circuits: the 4026 decade counter and the 4053 triple 2-channel multiplexer*. Recorded during my *4th Year, 1st Semester (BSc) on March 1, 2021, this video breaks down how these ICs work and how they can be used in practical applications.
Here’s a quick overview:
The 4026 Decade Counter IC: This IC not only functions as a decade counter but also includes a *7-segment decoder driver*, making it perfect for controlling a common-cathode seven-segment LED display. The advantage of the 4026 is its *built-in decoding functionality*—ideal for projects requiring simplified counting and display without additional circuitry.
The 4053 Multiplexer IC: The 4053 is a triple 2-channel multiplexer with separate digital control inputs (A, B, and C) and an inhibit input. Each control input can select one of a pair of channels in a *single-pole double-throw configuration*, making it versatile for routing signals in multiple channels with minimal interference.
In this video, I explain the pin configurations, functionalities, and practical uses of each IC, along with a few project ideas where they shine. Whether you’re a student, hobbyist, or enthusiast, this deep dive into the 4026 and 4053 ICs will help you understand the power of multiplexers and counters in electronics.
