Still sticking with my Keeper Collection of things I've chipped, this week I focus on 4 of the largest blades I have ever chipped. This is a shorter video but the blades are longer. I used a variety of materials to make these blades. 2 of them are chipped out of heat-treated Novaculite (which is Arkansas wetstone), one is from a large raw piece of chert from Texas, and the last one is made out of glass. I knew a fellow that was taking blue glass bottles and pulverizing them into dust and then pouring that dust into a ceramic rectangular mold and heating this in his kiln. The glass one was by far the most challenging one as it is very brittle and required a lot of support and dampening to chip it. That blade is about 18 1/2" in length and is so far the largest piece I have successfully made. I hope you enjoy this look at these large blades.
