Being neurodivergent means thinking about so much—from packing a huge bag to make sure all your sensory safeties are covered, to struggling with the bag itself because it’s heavy. But honestly, the joy of neurodivergence? Completely unmatched!
Mum and I went shopping in Fitzroy at my favourite spot, The Vintage Garage, where I tried on all kinds of unusual clothes. Ironically, we went back to the apartment to change, so I didn’t even need that bag after all.
Things got a little hectic with the tram, but we made it to the Botanical Gardens in time for Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
I’ve seen around eight Shakespeare plays at the Globe and probably five in Australia—and this one was hands down the best. The only thing that could’ve been better? The refreshments: my tea was cold, my champagne hot.
Despite some wasted effort bringing my comfort items along to the wrong places, ensuring I had everything I needed made the day feel supported. And when it came to the show, I could fully enjoy it, sensory needs taken care of, without distractions.
If you are neurodivergent, struggle with travelling, planning, organising or just exisiting in the world - follow along for more content about doing it anyway. No point wasting all that joy!
