Transcript
The heart is an important organ. Organ is the name given to a group of different tissues working together to perform a job inside the body. The job of the heart is to pump blood throughout the body. The heart is made up of four chambers. The upper chambers are called the left atrium and the right atrium. The lower chambers are called the left ventricle and the right ventricle. These chambers are hollow and fill up with blood when the heart beats. As you can see from this picture, the left ventricle has larger, thicker walls of muscle than the other chambers. This is because this chamber is responsible for squeezing the blood at high pressure and sending it to the rest of the body.
