On the shores of Banc d’Arguin in Mauritania, the Imraguen people live at the crossroads of two worlds: the vast, arid Sahara and the fish-rich waters of the Atlantic. Descendants of Bedouin nomads, they have carved out a life in this stark environment. Aboard a Canary fishing boat, young Ahmed learns the ancient art of navigating the muddy channels under the watchful eye of Noor, his uncle and the village chief. After decades of life bridging sea and desert, Noor dreams of spending his final days among the dunes.
The nutrient-rich waters of Banc d’Arguin are teeming with fish, vital to the survival of this isolated community. The Imraguen use unique fishing techniques, blending their desert heritage with a deep understanding of the ocean. Their story is one of resilience, adaptation, and a profound connection to a challenging yet life-sustaining environment.
