For nearly thirty years, Word Alive was a popular Bible holiday week attended by conservative evangelicals of all ages, featuring tracks tailored to university students and sermons by well-known pastors from across the UK and the world.
Originally an off-shoot event to Spring Harvest, it was relaunched by UCCF and Keswick Ministries in 2008 following ‘the Chalke controversy’ surrounding substitutionary atonement, and ran for fifteen years until the sudden shut down of the holiday park on which it was held in 2023.
This eventually led to Word Alive’s permanent closure the following year, after no suitable alternative venues could be found.
So in this video, we will take a look at ‘the Chalke controversy’, the features of Word Alive and the timeline up to the announcement that it would not be running again.
