Pilau! Here's a simple and flavorful Kenyan-style pilau recipe:
Ingredients:
1 cup uncooked basmati rice
2 cups water
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp grated ginger
1 tsp pilau masala (or curry powder)
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
Salt, to taste
Optional: 1/2 cup cooked meat (beef, chicken, or lamb)
Instructions:
1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook until onions are translucent.
2. Add pilau masala, cumin, coriander, and salt. Stir for 1 minute.
3. Add rice and stir to coat with the spice mixture.
4. Add water and bring to a boil.
5. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until rice is cooked and fluffy.
6. If using cooked meat, fluff it into the pilau before serving.
Tips:
Use a non-stick pan to prevent rice from sticking.
Adjust spice levels to your liking.
You can also add potatoes, carrots, or peas for added flavor and nutrition.
