Backpacking with Alaskan Malamutes / Arctic Expedition Training

This is the first episode in a series about the Alaskan Arctic expedition I undertook in 2014. This video is a compilation of footage and photography taken between January and April 2014 as I trained for the expedition.

Lila and Rumo, our Alaskan Malamutes, were my constant companions, and together we trained daily, alternating between backpacking, canicrossing and hiking; gradually building up our strength and endurance.

To provide structure to our workouts, I decided to enroll in the Alaskan Malamute Working Association's Working Pack Dog Scheme, gaining working titles as our training progressed and we were able to cover greater and greater distances, carrying heavier and heavier loads.

99% of the time, it was just myself and the dogs training together, but very occasionally, we did have some company. It was extremely hard work but it was an amazing experience as the pups and I bonded together, closer than ever, as an unbreakable team, to the point where we were able to cover distances of over 20 miles in a day, carrying very heavy backpacks!
