Tragic Start To Ambon 🇮🇩

Today we're going to Ambon. Finally leaving Java Island after 3 and a half months to go explore some other parts of Indonesia. I decided to go to the Maluku Islands because of its long history pertaining to colonization and the spice trade. There was also a tragic story of the Australian soldiers that were POWs during WW2 under the Japanese occupation that I want to share. This part of Indonesia just has so many stories and events that shaped the world we live in today and I want to go see them for myself and share some of the stories with you.

So in this video, I left Surabaya and caught a flight to Ambon. I had a brief layover in Makassar, Sulawesi, before landing in Ambon. Everything went smoothly, I even met a nice guy in Ambon at the airport that is from Banda Neira and could possibly help me get over there while I'm here. After grabbing my bags, I head out of the airport, and of course, I am surrounded by taxi drivers vying for my business. I decide to go with one of the local drivers as opposed to using Gojek because the price was about the same. On the way to my hotel though, a very tragic moment happened. As we were just getting on the road, we were driving along the beautiful coast and doing a little chit-chatting back and forth. He asked me where I was from, and when I told him I'm from Texas, and at that very moment as we are driving down the road, there was a car parked in the left lane on the side of the road, and a dog walked out from behind the car and into our lane, the driver didn't see it in time and we drove right through the dog. It all happened so fast. I just put my head down and couldn't even look back, I knew by the speed we were going and the force that we hit it, it didn't stand a chance, and hopefully, it was put out of its misery very quickly. We then get to my hotel and I try explaining what happened and I get a little shaken up talking about it and have to stop. I go and check into the hotel and give a small tour of my new room. After settling down a bit I just get a bite to eat and share with you guys what happened and express my condolences to the family that lost their dog today. Growing up with dogs my whole life, I have a soft spot for animals, especially dogs, so this hit me a lot harder than expected.

Definitely not how I wanted to start my Ambon journey, but I am still looking forward to being here. There is much to see here and in the surrounding areas and I'll try my best to get around to as many places as possible!
