Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto slammed the European Commission’s plan to send 100 billion euros to Ukraine as “madness,” citing ongoing corruption scandals in Kiev. Speaking ahead of the Brussels FMs’ meeting, Szijjarto condemned what he called a “war mafia” operating in Ukraine, referencing a $100 million energy contract scandal implicating top officials. The row has already led to the resignation of two ministers. President Zelensky has defended Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies but faced protests earlier this year when attempting to limit their powers. Szijjarto warned European taxpayers’ money should not support corrupt systems.
