Technological revolution has penetrated almost all the spheres of our daily life. Everything, for the better of worse, is being replaced with digital alternatives. However one field of activity can be hardly substituted and that is board gaming. This is so because there is no real alternative for face-to-face interaction. What if we use this medium of communication to cultivate certain language skills. There are more than 90,000 board games, so many of them can be put to good use. When we come to think about board games and languages, the game of Scrabble immediately comes to our mind. But this is not the only game of its kind. There are dozens of word games using the same or different game mechanics. In addition, there are association games which take word games to a more sophisticated level. For the more advanced learners the secret role games can be an asset immersing you into an engaging world role play. Over the years, board gamers have developed a strong community which provides you with a nice chance for socializing.
Alexander Mynzak is a polyglot, PhD in Linguistics, a translator and a teacher from Ukraine. Previously Alexander has been teaching and lecturing at the university level and abroad. Now he successfully runs a language school with more than 100 students in his home town. What is special about this school is that Alex is a single teacher and manager there. In his teaching he places great emphasis on motivating the students and gamification of learning.
