Agustín Barrios Mangoré | Vals, Op. 8 No. 4 | Kevin Loh

Just last week, we witnessed the 135th anniversary of the birth of Paraguayan composer and guitar virtuoso, Agustín Barrios Mangoré, and one of the most famous pieces that he wrote for the guitar is undeniably the Vals, Op. 8 No. 4 in G major.

As a kid, this simple tune was one of my most favourite pieces ever. I remember whenever I heard this piece, I would always get up, dance around, and sing the melody in my head. So when the opportunity arose to learn this piece, I had a tremendous amount of fun.

I first tried to record this piece when I was just 6 years old, but I only managed the theme at the time... 😅 (   • 6 year old plays barrios Valse Opus 8 No 4  ), and I had another go when I was about 10 (   • Barrios: Vals, Op. 8 No. 4 - Kevin Loh (10)  ), but fast forward a decade and a bit, I still had lots of fun preparing this piece once more.
