The Summit Double chair is a two-person fixed-grip chairlift located at Black Mountain Ski Area. The chairlift runs from the base area up to the summit of the ski area. From the top of the lift, skiers and riders can access nearly all of Black's terrain. The terrain off the top of the chairlift consists of an intermediate and advanced trail as well as multiple expert trails. The lift also features a mid-station unload near the top of the East Bowl Triple chairlift and the Lostbo Cabin, which features more beginner and intermediate terrain. The lift is a throwback, featuring a portal tower, red Riblet chairs (added in 1990 after a fire), and lattice towers. The lift was manufactured by Mueller and installed at the resort in 1965, making it the oldest currently operating chairlift at the ski area.
Black Mountain is a ski area located in Jackson, New Hampshire. The ski area is located in the state's Mount Washington Valley Region in Northern Caroll County, about a 20-minute drive north of North Conway. The ski area is located just outside the center of the town of Jackson, a small charming town located just off NH Route 16. Just like town, its ski area is small but charming. Featuring a vertical of just over 1,000 feet, Black is often overshadowed by its nearby larger competitors but features wonderful terrain of its own. The top of the mountain features many expert trails, while the western half of the lower mountain features mostly advanced trails, and the eastern lower half features a large variety of fun beginner and intermediate trails. Many of their trails are narrow and gradually wind themselves down the mountain, making for some great runs. Black is very much a "no-frills" ski area, featuring fixed-grip lifts, minimal facilities, and minimal snowmaking but makes up for it with some of the best grooming anywhere, affordable prices, and a wonderful vibe. The mountain is also unique in that it is south facing which limits its ability to hold snow but results in some great skiing in the sun. The ski area also features the oldest overhead cable ski lift in the United States, the J-Bar, which was built in 1935. The ski area is independently owned but is a partner on the Indy Pass, granting pass holders 2 days each at the mountain.
