Controlling false smut and Sheath Blight diseases in Rice.
Rice false smut (RFS) is the most important grain disease in rice production worldwide. Its epidemics not only lead to yield loss but also reduce grain quality because of multiple mycotoxins generated by the causative pathogen, Villosiclava virens (anamorph: Ustilaginoidea virens). The pathogen infects developing spikelets and specifically converts individual grain into an RFS ball that is established from mycelia covered with powdery chlamydospores, sometimes generating sclerotia. RFS balls seem to be randomly formed in some grains on a panicle of a plant in the paddy field. However, epidemics differ largely among varieties, fields, and seasons.
Rice Sheath blight is a fungal disease caused by Rhizoctonia solani. Infected leaves senesce or dry out and die more rapidly, young tillers can also be destroyed. As a result, the leaf area of the canopy can significantly be reduced by the disease.
Due to the heavy rains in the Telugu States, fungal diseases like false smut and Sheath blight is drastically attacking in the rice fields. Let us know the control of Sheath blight and False smut.

వరి పంటలో విజృంభిస్తున్న మానిపండు తెగులు, పాముపొడ తెగులు - నివారణ
తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో అధిక వర్షాలు వరి రైతులపాలిట శాపంగా మారాయి. పంట ఈనిక దశలో అధిక వర్షాల వల్ల మానిపండు తెగులు విజృంభిస్తోంది. దీన్ని మానుగాయ లేదా కాటుక తెగులు అని పిలుస్తారు. ఆంగ్లంలో ఫాల్స్ స్మట్ అంటారు. శిలీంధ్రం ద్వారా వ్యాప్తి చెందే ఈ తెగులు చల్లటి వాతావరణంలో అధికంగా వ్యాపిస్తుంది. గతంలో అక్కడక్కడా కనిపించే ఈ తెగులును రైతులు పెద్దగా పట్టించుకునేవారు కాదు. కానీ గత ఏడాది నుండి ఈ కాటుక తెగులు వరి దిగుబడులపై తీవ్ర ప్రభావం చూపుతోంది. పైరు పూత దశలోనే ఈ శిలీంధ్రం దాడి వల్ల, గింజ పాలుపోసుకోక పోవటం, వచ్చిన కంకి కూడా నల్లగా మసిబారిపోవటం వల్ల రైతులు తీవ్రంగా నష్టపోతున్నారు. అలాగే చాలా ప్రాంతాల్లో పాముపొడ తెగులు తాకిడి అధికంగా కనిపిస్తోంది.వరిపైరు చిరుపొట్ట దశ నుండి, కంకి పాలుపోసుకునే దశలో వున్న ఈ సమయంలో ఈ తెగుళ్ల నివారణకు రైతులు తగిన ముందస్తు నివారణ చర్యలు చేపట్టాలని శాస్త్రవేత్తలు సూచిస్తున్నారు. వివరాలు ఈ కథనంలో తెలుసుకుందాం.
