Schindler Traction Elevator | Glerárgata 24, Akureyri, IS

This is one out of seven four storey office buildings along Glerárgata in Akureyri, with each building has at least one elevator. This is the first building (number 24) along the stretch.

An older Schindler elevator from the 1970s. You might think that this elevator has been modernized but upon closer examination it actually still runs with its original relay controller, as you could hear some clicking relay sounds and feel how slightly abrupt the startup and stopping is. Apart from the replaced fixtures (which was done in 2006 and I count this as an upgrade), the whole elevator still has that 1970s feel. I really like that "Schindler" emblem on the rear wall. This was my second time seeing that kind of emblem after in Penang, Malaysia back in 2022 (where the elevator has sadly been modernized). And the best part here? Well, it has no inner door fitted fortunately!

For some reason the elevator slightly "dropped" a few inches when I first stepped in on the 1st floor. This worried me a bit so I decided to send the elevator up first to see if it's okay for me to ride, as I was afraid that I would get stuck inside and that is something I really don't want especially being in a foreign land like this.
