The Land Rover Freelander 1.8 K-Series engine is an interference engine—a single wrong tooth can destroy your valves! This comprehensive guide shows you the only correct way to replace the timing belt and set the cam and crank timing.
⚠️ YOU MUST USE SPECIAL TOOLS! You cannot rely on sight marks alone for this engine.
In this video, we cover:
Crankshaft Alignment & Locking: The procedure for setting the piston to TDC and inserting the Flywheel Timing Pin (6.75mm).
Camshaft Alignment: Using the Camshaft Locking Tool to accurately set the inlet and exhaust cam slots (at the rear of the cylinder head) to the correct position.
Belt Installation & Tension: Correctly running the belt, setting the tensioner, and torquing the essential bolts.
Final Check: The 2-turn safety check to ensure zero valve-to-piston contact.
If you are tackling the K-Series, check out my other video on the Head Gasket Replacement!
Tools Used/Required:
Flywheel Timing Pin (LRT-12-108)
Camshaft Locking Tool (LRT-12-173)
Torque Wrench (Essential for tensioner/sprocket bolts)
