In this short, safety-focused video we demonstrate a basic field cleaning of a Sig Sauer MCX Rattler 5.56 using only paper towels and Q-tips for light maintenance and post-range touch-ups. This video is intended to show simple, low-tool cleaning techniques for removing fouling from external surfaces, the chamber area, and other accessible spots after shooting.
IMPORTANT SAFETY FIRST: Before doing anything with any firearm, unload it, remove all ammunition from the work area, and visually and physically verify the chamber is empty. Follow the Sig Sauer owner’s manual for full field-strip, cleaning, and reassembly procedures. If you’re not comfortable performing maintenance, take the rifle to a qualified gunsmith.
What you’ll see in this video:
• A clear safety checklist and how we verify the rifle is unloaded.
• How to use paper towels for exterior wipe-downs and to catch drips.
• How to use Q-tips to clean small crevices, the ejection port lip, and other tight areas.
• When to use a little solvent and where to apply lubricant sparingly.
• Reassembly reminders and a basic function/visual check (per manufacturer recommendations).
• Tips to avoid pushing debris deeper into sensitive parts and when to stop and do a more thorough clean with proper tools.
Note: This demo uses everyday items for light cleaning only. For a full service or deep bore/bolt-carrier cleaning, use proper brushes, bore guides, cleaning rods, and follow the Sig Sauer maintenance manual or a qualified armorer’s instructions.
