High Density ∝ Higher Living Standards
1810-20: birth rate was low in more populated areas in England
Theory related to prosperity & space
Space must be qualitative – capacity to sustain life (he believed quality is regulated by extent of space it occupies)
High density with high fertility in Netherlands
Added Mortality as factor
All other things being same, fertility increases with increase in mortality
High density → high mortality (unhealthy atmosphere)
Could not differentiate fertility & fecundity
