How to Shoot a Panel Discussion with a Single Camera – Step‑by‑Step Tutorial and walk away with clean audio and professional results
In this video, I take you behind the scenes at the National Press Building in Washington DC where I was tasked with capturing a live government panel in a tight space with limited mobility and no lighting support. This is where smart planning, simple gear choices, and layered audio make all the difference
You’ll see my full solo setup using a Canon R6 with a Ninja V recorder, powered by a V mount battery system and rigged with the Falcon F38 quick release. I’ll walk you through how I positioned the camera to get full coverage of the panel, what lens I used to get everyone in frame, and how I made sure the audio was locked in using Rode Wireless Go IIs and DJI wireless mics recording internally
Whether you shoot live events, corporate setups, or nonprofit panels, this breakdown will give you real world insight on how to keep your setups lean while still delivering high quality footage and sound
