This is a continuation of my series, “What a Character!” where I introduce traditional Chinese characters in alphabetical order according to Pinyin spelling. Today's sound forms are "Chui" (pronounced "chway") and "Chun." Note: For notice learners, "chun" and "qun" may be difficult to tell apart. The softer sound "q" as written in Pinyin, is pronounce with pursed lips with the tongue closer to the front teeth.
00- 00:59 Review of "Chuang" and intro.
60-02:20 吹 1st tone "chui" means "blow" or "boast." The left side radical is "mouth" and I see the right side as the side view of a kung fu fighter in throwing a jab punch. It is the same in simplified Chinese.
21-03:37 垂 2nd tone "chui(2)" is to "hang down" or "nearing." The character looks like a scaffolding to me.
56- 04:51 春 1st tone "Chun" represents "spring" is a very common character. The lower component is a "re" (sun/day) radical.
00-06:12 Intermission and Easy Chinese practice. Shopping Time!
13-07:07 純 2nd tone "chun(2)" carries the meaning of "pure" or "simple." The left side is the "silk" radical and the right side means "village."
08 - 07:38 脣 (唇)👄 This 2nd tone "chun(2)" has "chen" (discussed in a former video) over "meat" or in simplified Chinese, the "mouth" radical (in parentheses).
39-08:46 醇 "Chun(2)" has the meaning "mellow" or "rich in flavor." It has the "wine jar" radical on the left and "Xiang(3)" (enjoy) on the right. It is the same in simplified.
58- 09:53 蠢 3rd tone "chun(3)" is "spring" over two "insect" components, meaning "stupid."
54- 11:39. Review and Weekly Vlog clips
