These Soft & Juicy Greek Meatballs (Keftedes) are my most flavor-packed recipe yet.
A perfect balance of beef and lamb, fresh mint, oregano and warm spices — all simmered
in a rich Mediterranean tomato sauce until unbelievably tender.
This is one of those Greek comfort classics that works with everything: rice, potatoes,
pasta, pita or just fresh bread to soak up that beautiful sauce.

🛒 Ingredients:
400gr / 14oz ground beef
400gr / 14oz ground lamb
1 small onion
2 garlic cloves
1 egg
200gr / 7 oz white bread
150ml / ⅔ cup milk
1 small bunch fresh mint
1 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp dried oregano
Olive oil
Salt & pepper
For the sauce:
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp tomato paste
400gr / 14oz canned tomatoes
1 chicken stock cube
1 cinnamon stick
½ tsp ground cumin
1 tbsp dried oregano
Olive oil
Salt & pepper
👨🍳 Instructions:
Finely chop the onion and garlic and add them to a mixing bowl.
Crumble the bread into small pieces and add to the bowl.
Pour the milk over the bread crumbs.
Finely chop the mint leaves and add to the bowl.
Add the ground beef and ground lamb to the mixing bowl.
Add the soaked bread crumbs.
Add the egg.
Add the ground cumin.
Add the oregano.
Add the pepper.
Add the salt.
Mix everything very well.
Form small meatballs.
Sear the meatballs in olive oil.
Turn them occasionally.
Cook until golden brown.
Remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.
Finely chop the garlic.
Finely chop the onion.
Sauté the onion and garlic in olive oil.
Add the tomato paste.
Add the canned tomatoes.
Add the stock cube.
Add a splash of water.
Balance the acidity with a little sugar if needed.
Add the cinnamon stick.
Add the ground cumin.
Add the oregano.
Season with salt to taste.
Season with pepper to taste.
Cook until the sauce begins to thicken.
Return the meatballs to the pan.
Simmer covered for 35–40 minutes.
Ready to serve.
