Rare Vintage Video Clips - Sangeet Natak Akademi Award Clips - 1954, 1956, 1976

Nādabhṛṅga brings you a collection of rare vintage video clippings from the archives featuring the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards (initially known as the President's Award) being presented to various erstwhile Titans of South Indian Carnatic Music.

The first clip is from 31st March 1954 - Mahāvidvān Śrīmān Ariyakkudi T Ramanuja Iyengar can be seen receiving the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship from President Rajendra Prasad (he received the Akademi award in 1952, the very year it was instituted). This is followed by clippings of a flute concert by the Akademi Award recipient for 1954, Śrīmān Palladam Sanjeevi Rao with the various awardees and dignitaries in attendance. Among the audience can be seen Śrī Ramanuja Iyengar, Ustad Hafeez Ali Khan and Ustad Alladiya Khan.

The second clip from 1956 shows Mahāvidvān Śrīmān Palghat T S Mani Iyer receiving the award from President Rajendra Prasad. The award clip is followed by a clip where he is seen playing the tani āvartana, with Śrī Palghat K V Narayanaswamy keeping time.

The third clip, also from 1956, shows the other awardee for Carnatic Music that year, Smt. M S Subbulakshmi, receiving the award, followed by a clip of her concert on the occasion.

The final clip from 1976 shows Śrīmān Semmangudi R Srinivasa Iyer receiving the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship from President B D Jatti, and Śrīmān Palghat K V Narayanaswamy receiving the Akademi Award.
