What Are Immobilization Devices in Radiation Therapy?
Immobilization devices are specially designed tools that keep patients still during radiation treatment. They help align the patient’s body exactly the same way for every session, ensuring that the radiation beam hits the tumor precisely while protecting surrounding healthy tissues.

How Is a Head & Neck Cancer Mask Made?
A thermoplastic sheet is heated to 70–75°C and molded to the patient’s face and neck, forming a personalized mask. This custom fit prevents even the smallest involuntary movement, allowing radiation to target the tumor site accurately and safely.

Why Is Immobilization So Important in Radiation Therapy?
Even a millimeter of movement can change where the radiation dose lands. Immobilization ensures the exact dose reaches the tumor every time while minimizing exposure to critical organs nearby.

What Happens After the Mask Is Created?
Once the mask is ready, a CT scan is performed for radiation therapy planning. The data is transferred to the Treatment Planning System (TPS), where the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist work together to design a precise, patient-specific plan for daily treatments.

How Does the Vacuum Cushion Bag (Backlock) Help?
This device, filled with tiny pellets, molds perfectly to the patient’s body when the air is removed. It provides a stable, reproducible position throughout the treatment, ensuring consistent accuracy in every session.

He completed his MCh course in surgical oncology from the reputed Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, one of the premier cancer care centres in the country.
