The 20 megawatt photovoltaic solar farm in Camilla, Georgia was the first to participate in Georgia Power's Advanced Solar Initiative (ASI), which committed to buy-back power from privately-owned solar generation plants. Georgia Power allocated 210 megawatts of it's required generation capacity to ASI. This provided a business-case for the construction of several large-scale solar farms around the state.
The 120-acre facility, developed and owned by Origis Energy (www.origisenergy.com), was one of Georgia’s first large-scale solar power plants and consists of 67,600 photovoltaic panels.
