WELCOME!
In this video, we stayed overnight in Tokyo at La Vista Hotel in order to try to catch the fish auction at Toyosu Market, and then attend the Coffee Event at Tokyo Big Sight, held by the Specialty Coffee Association of Japan.

Below is some quick info about the places we visited and please [Turn on the subtitles] for this video as it might be hard to hear a bit due to all the other voices around!

Thanks again for watching,
Eric and Nao :)

1) LA VISTA HOTEL
The La Vista Tokyo Bay is an upscale hotel located near the Toyosu Market at 6-chōme-4-40 Toyosu, Koto City, Tokyo. This sleek hotel is known for offering modern rooms, some of which feature beautiful bay views. Guests can enjoy a range of amenities, including on-site dining options, a relaxing spa, and a traditional bathhouse. It holds a rating of 4.1 stars.

Address: 6-chōme-4-40 Toyosu, Koto City, Tokyo 135-0061

2) TOYOSU MARKET
The Toyosu Market is a sprawling, modern wholesale facility that serves as Tokyo's central hub for fresh seafood and produce. It is split into different buildings, each with a designated observation route for visitors.

Here is a quick description of the two main trading areas:

1. The Tuna Auction (Fisheries Wholesale Market Building)
The tuna auction is a fast-paced and electrifying spectacle where licensed buyers bid for giant frozen tuna. It typically takes place very early in the morning, usually between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM.

Viewing Areas: Visitors have two ways to observe the auction, both from designated decks:

Second-Floor Observation Deck/Windows: This area is open to the public from about 5:00 AM and does not require an advance ticket or lottery. The auction is viewed through a sealed, double-glazed glass window.

First-Floor Special Observation Deck: This area is closer to the action and allows you to hear the market sounds, as it is separated by only a single pane of glass that does not fully enclose the deck. Access is limited to about 100 spectators a day and requires a free ticket obtained through an advance monthly lottery system. You must apply online, and if selected, arrive early (around 5:30 AM) to check in.

2. The Fruit and Vegetable Market (Fruit and Vegetable Market Building)
Toyosu Market is also home to a massive building dedicated to the trade of fresh fruits and vegetables from Japan and overseas. This market handles around 1,000 tons of produce daily.

Trading Activity: The main auctions for produce usually start around 6:30 AM, although many transactions are handled through one-on-one deals between wholesalers and buyers throughout the morning. The market is crucial for setting prices and sourcing seasonal produce for supermarkets and restaurants across Eastern Japan.

Viewing Experience: Visitors can observe the wholesale and auction areas from a dedicated visitors' deck on the second floor. This corridor is often noted for being visually distinct, with parts of the walls color-coded to reflect the seasonal fruits and vegetables traded throughout the year.
