Skip Schumaker was selected in the fifth round of the 2001 MLB Draft. Four years later, he made his big league debut with the Cardinals. He went on to play seven years with St. Louis (2005-12) and was a member of the 2011 World Series championship team.
After a season with the Dodgers and two more with the Reds, Schumaker’s playing career ended in 2016. He turned to coaching a year later, when he was named the first base coach for the San Diego Padres in December 2017. He spent four seasons with the Padres before being hired by St. Louis in November 2021 to be the bench coach. In 2022, he was named the Miami Marlins manager and in 2023, was named NL Manager of the. Year.
Schumaker and the Marlins parted ways after the 2024 season.
