In this comprehensive video, we guide you through the steps for achieving optimal lateral positioning of newborns. The right selection of positioning aids such as Baby Nest, Baby Flex, and a cap in the appropriate sizes is crucial for the patient's comfort and safety.
When placing the newborn in the lateral position, the baby should be curled up, with legs bent toward the chest and arms gathered and contained. It's essential to maintain proper hand-mouth alignment while ensuring that the shoulders and hips are well-aligned. Position the newborn deeply in the footboard for added security.
In this lateral decubitus position, Baby Flex will be positioned behind the baby's back, wrapping gently from head to toe to enhance containment. This design replicates the confined space of the mother's womb, helping to prevent the newborn from rolling over into unsafe positions, whether supine or prone.
To secure the baby effectively, we recommend fastening the Baby Flex with the two laces at the ends and using the straps to wrap the entire setup securely.
A vital consideration in the lateral position is the baby's ears, which are a sensitive pressure point. To avoid bedsores, we advise using a newborn cap and regularly alternating the side on which the baby rests.
Join us as we demonstrate these essential techniques for ensuring the safety and comfort of newborns in a lateral position, promoting a nurturing environment during their critical early stages of development.
