The Melody from Christoph Willibald Gluck's opera Orfeo ed Euridice, as transcribed for piano by Giovanni Sgambati. Recorded by Romantic composer-pianist Robert Cunningham on April 29, 2023. Gluck's opera premiered in 1762, and this Melody comes from the middle section of the Dance of the Blessed Spirits, an instrumental ballet in Act II, where it is set for flute solo with string accompaniment. Sgambati's beautiful piano transcription was first published more than a century later in 1878.
