Luck was on our side!
We heard about a minor derailment in (or near) the yard at Conway Terminal, so, we set off from different directions to find it!
I headed towards Baden & East Conway while The Girl in the Orange Hat went towards Rochester & West Conway.
Well, what an evening we ended up with! Near Freedom, I found RJ Corman cleaning up a small derailment in the yard. Becky, on the other hand, found Norfolk Southern Heritage Engine #8114 coming out of the yard on empty grain train NS 45M, past the new Delaware & Hudson Heritage Unit #1080 while it was building mixed freight manifest train NS 11Q with GP38-2 high hood #5018.
From her discovery, it was a leapfrog chase across Beaver County on the former Pennsylvania Railroad Ft Wayne Line (PRR FTW)! The derailment video will be coming soon.
We start with the heritage meet in Rochester, and a pace of the orange schemed GE locomotive before jumping up high for a panoramic shot approaching Highland Cut.
At CP BRIGHT, an eastbound hirail stops on the Youngstown Line as 45M crosses from Main 1, over the YNG, and onto Main 2 west.
Next is New Galilee for a protected grade crossing and Big Beaver Wetlands for a reflection under the sunset. We close out 8114 with the full train disappearing into the sunset at Haggerty Road.
Here, we learned 11Q was on the move and quickly closing in.
Becky stayed at her crossing in New Galilee while I went back east to try to get the D&H at Highland. No dice!
We got it at Haggerty and 2 spots in New Galilee as batteries went dead and darkness overtook us. The full consist of 11Q wraps up the video from Galilee.
We hope you enjoy the video and please have a great day!
