This is a 4-Player match play tournament simulation on GAME OF THRONES (GOT), where Vince plays all 4 players and explains in play by play detail his decision making based on his progress, the current game state, and where his score is in relation to the other 3 players, ball to ball. If you're into competitive play, then this going to give you an edge on Stern's GOT & in general tournament play in terms of how to think and approach playing in strikes and match play formats.
BEFORE YOU WATCH:
1) This video was live streamed and the initial few seconds are missing so we start on the first pre-play slide.
2) Consider watching at 1.25x speed so long as the concepts and explanation are being understood and the action isn't too fast since there's a lot of explanation & thought as the ball is trapped up and you'll save a chunk of time watching this which is 2 hours long.
3) This tutorial was done on a GOT Pro code v1.37. There are some differences if it was Premium/LE vs Pro (upper playfield and a target blocking the ramp).
WHO THIS TUTORIAL IS FOR
Tournament players who are tired of losing at Game Of Thrones (GOT) and/or who want to win with a high degree of consistency.
WHO THIS ISN'T FOR
If you are looking for a quick, basic tutorial on GOT, this is not it nor is it for players who want to only know the minimum to get by and have a "hope for the best" attitude toward the game. It probably is not for Escher or Zahler and some other top professionals, but who knows, as having talked to some top-100 IFPA ranked players who learn enough to execute a desired strategy but do not know some of the nuances that can really help them in certain situations.
WAYS TO WIN IN COMPETITIVE PINBALL MATCHES
1) Superior Skill (shot accuracy, flipper skills, reflexes, nudging/keeping ball in play, etc.)
2) Superior Game Strategy & Knowledge
3) Superior Situational Play
4) Superior Luck
If you are not the most skilled player and do not want to solely rely on luck, then options 2 and 3 can get you on the winning path and that is what this tutorial is about!
WHY GAME OF THRONES
Many games have one or two strategies or paths where their execution makes or breaks you in a tournament match. However, with the different abilities for each house, which you can choose at the start of the game, your house dictates your strategy and path to beat your opponents. Knowing the "whats and the whys" of the options that you are faced with during play, along with doing things in the correct order, will give you a very big advantage over players who do not know what you are about to learn if you continue watching.
TUTORIAL FORMAT
This tutorial is a "4-player group match play simulation" with heavy duty tournament strategy and detailed situational play on GOT. Playing all 4 players & explaining every thought, flip and decision based on the current options available on the playfield taking into account each player's score, game progress and perceived skill level of the other players (in other words their relative ability to catch up).
TUTORIAL CONTENT FOCUS
There is a lot of detail on why to choose a particular house in terms of scoring potential and the ease or difficulty of achieving a particular score, and on stacking modes with multiballs at specific times and in a particular order. This tutorial is not for newbies. There is minimal explanation of the playfield and general rules, as that is prerequisite knowledge needed to maximize the benefit of this tutorial.
WARNING:
To repeat, this tutorial is very detailed but is based on actual situations that you are likely to encounter during a tournament. You will see how to approach it to make it one of your "go-to" games, with a high likelihood of dominating your competition at best and not being last at worst.
GOT PINBALL SKILL PREREQUISITES (in order of importance for this game):
Bounce Passing – To slow the ball down so that you can make a shot or trap it.
Trapping – So that you can assess what to do next and allow for post passes.
Post Passing – Critical because some shots are safer from one flipper versus another.
Live Catching – To trap and avoid flailing balls coming down from the playfield, especially on the plunge.
KEY CONCEPTS
Houses
Short Plunging
Modes
Multiballs
Lockdown Bar Button
Doing Things In The Right Order
KEY SHOTS
If you are able to practice on the actual game you play in the tournament, get these things down (in priority order):
Short Plunge – Find where to plunge so that the ball does not hit the upper switch.
Center Ramp – Critical for starting modes on the Pro; it is the Lannister shot and is used for Stark mode value building.
Tyrell Targets – Dangerous targets on the right that light locks. This is a late shot from the left or a ricochet off drops from the right.
Dragon Shot – The most difficult shot in the game, needed for Wall MB.
Knowing which of these to do, plus how and when to do them, will skyrocket your results.
