This Architect Designed a Flexible Home for Modern Family Life

Located within the streets of Fitzroy North, One MANI House by Mani Architecture is a study in adaptability, responding to both site constraints and the evolving needs of modern family life. With a narrow frontage and limited footprint, the design challenges preconceptions of what’s possible on compact suburban blocks.

Timber shingles wrap the façade, offering a playful yet contextual response to the neighbourhood streetscape. Internally, the home prioritises flexibility, providing four bedrooms, multiple living areas, and integrated spaces that blur the boundaries between indoors and out. Natural materials, layered forms, and a considered approach to colour infuse every space with warmth.

Mani Architecture uses this project to question how homes can better support life’s changes, proposing a more inclusive and enduring model for residential design.
