Red, Red, Red is an original song inspired by the improvised play The Last Lullaby by Shoot From The Hip.
I loved this longform. I’m so, so impressed by what they can create. Genuinely—so creepy and mystical, heartbreaking and funny. THE ACTING!!! Those children were scary as f.
And of course, AJ’s perfect portrayal of a husband you just want to punch in the face. And Luke was amazing at playing the range of emotions the wife goes through.

It all seems to start so innocently.
Just kids begging to be let inside because a blizzard is raging and they’re freezing.
Soft voices that keep persisting, trying to persuade in one way or another.
And when they don’t get their way, they become more aggressive.
The jump from an innocent statement to “I’ll end your life” is very fast and chilling.
The wife is not stupid—far from it. She knows how she’ll end up if the children get in.
And because of her husband, they do get inside.
She tries whatever she can to save herself. She offers to play a game—hide and seek.

These children aren’t just machines. If you listen closely, deep down they don’t want to do what they do.
They play a game, destroy people’s lives, but it seems like it’s gotten extremely out of control as time went on.
So the suggestion of playing something new was exactly what they needed.
And they knew what the woman was trying to do—that it was meant to trick them.
They agreed anyway.

When she ran away and hid, they went looking for her.
They found her at last, hiding with a couple who have seen too much for their lifetime.
And when the husband got in the way, they “took care of him.”
Because they are only playing the game. In their minds, this makes sense.

But the grieving woman offers them something they never thought possible.
She tells them that if they let the wife win, they will get to die.
They want that more than anything.
Calm. Rest. For everything to just be over.
They are so tired—they just want to sleep.

They pretend they don’t see her. She wins, and they will fall.
They only have one last wish: to hear their last lullaby.
