With all this new dumb (and I do mean stupid and worthy of being made fun of) slang going around, how ridiculous would it sound if it was somehow implemented in a commercial fire alarm system used in a professional environment? Here's my best guess of how it might sound, utilizing just the right amount of excessive garbage slang. The icing on the cake here is that it is spoken by the old man TikTok voice, and the alarm is the TikTok siren meme.
Could this alarm solve the decades old issue of people not evacuating when the fire alarm goes off, or could it make all of the teens whip out their phones and start recording? Hard to say, but I'm going to guess the latter. Although the dumbing down and degradation of society is happening at a pretty steady pace, I don't think we'll reach this point of childishness and embarrassment anytime soon (I hope not).
I hope everyone will enjoy and get a kick out of this as I had a lot of fun making it. This video is the result of an idea that came to me about a year ago after seeing a viral Facebook post of a possibly real or fake campground sign "translated for teenagers," full of ridiculous gen z slang. I've finally had time over the past couple of days to brainstorm, type a message, install and wire the alarm and amplifier, and put this whole thing together.
Here are all the technical details SO PEOPLE DON'T ASK: The alarm is my brand new Eaton/Wheelock E70-24MCWH-FN speaker/strobe with the less common nickel finished faceplate. The strobe (set to 185 candela) is running off my Simplex 4005 FACP, and the speaker is running off my Radio Shack/Optimus MPA-40 PA amplifier with audio being fed into it via a cable running to my laptop.
The text to speech file was created in a free app on my phone called "Narrator's Voice," which has a variety of different voices, including those used on TikTok (which is an app I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole). The voice in this particular app is called "X-BigGhost." After downloading my file from the app, I plugged my phone into my desktop, transferred the audio file, repaired it with an online mp3 converter, imported it into Audacity, downloaded the TikTok siren meme sound, imported that into Audacity, and threw it together in the style of a typical fire alarm voice evacuation message.
For those in the alarm community, I might make more videos with this speaker/strobe before pulling it down.
