Security Chief Thorne initiates a ship-wide lockdown on the diplomatic vessel Meridian Reach after the two young Ulcara cubs, Pix and Huran, the heirs to the High Commander's bloodline, vanish from their locked quarters. Maintenance technician Kit realizes the cubs, who looked scared and malnourished, must have fled the austere Ulcara warrior upbringing, which forbids physical comfort. She is horrified to discover them curled up and purring inside the hood of her soft, oversized jacket.
Kit contacts Thorne, refusing to return the cubs until she can ensure their safety, revealing they are stressed, hungry, and desperate for comfort. A tense meeting ensues where Kit and the ship's medical officer, Lixip, reveal the Ulcara's child-rearing practices are modern extremism harming the children, leading to High Commander Lochmeth embracing his cubs and revising the Ulcara's protocols permanently.
