竹ノ塚エリア（足立区）は、東京都内でも特に外国人住民の割合が高い地域の一つとして知られています。かつてはフィリピンパブだけでも50軒あると言われており、その在り方から「リトルマニラ」とあだ名されることもあった。ガチ中華の店も進出しているほか、テナント料の高い池袋や競争相手の多い西川口を避けて店を開く中国人もいる。現在は中国人・韓国人・フィリピン人・タイ人・ベトナム人・インド人など多国籍にわたり居住しています。米国や英国といった欧米諸国はこほとんど増加していない。そうした意味では東京はアジア人が闊歩する街へとその姿を変えつつあると言える。
Takenotsuka
The Takenotsuka area (Adachi Ward) is known for having one of the highest proportions of foreign residents in Tokyo. It was once said to have 50 Filipino pubs alone, and the area was nicknamed "Little Manila" due to its location. Authentic Chinese restaurants have also opened here, and some Chinese people have chosen to avoid the high rents in Ikebukuro and the crowded Nishi-Kawaguchi area. Currently, the area is home to a diverse mix of nationalities, including Chinese, Koreans, Filipinos, Thais, Vietnamese, and Indians. The number of Westerners, such as Americans and British, has barely increased. In this sense, Tokyo is transforming into a city where Asians roam freely.
