Power Blade NES full playthrough

Now here is one I hadn't played in such a long time, so much that there are certain things I forgot I could do, like those cylinder items that recover your health, yeah, I was collecting them and didn't think about what they were for until near the end of the game. Yeah, silly me, could have saved myself some losses if I had looked into that in advance. I kept thinking, what are these things doing for me, forgot the game had a submenu to select between bombs and energy tank things.

Also, it is quite difficult to play these games that have diagonal attacks using the keyboard, just doesn't feel natural nor easy for me to pull off sometimes, guess I would totally suck at Contra or space shooters because of that. So I lost quite a lot of lives in this playthrough, and a couple of continues used to get to the end. When I had first died early in the game I thought, I should start over, but figured, nah, because I figured I'd lose more lives anyway.

This is a cool game, that maybe I hadn't played as much as I maybe should have, but it was one of those games that I got at the end of the top loader NES retail life, and the SNES was a new thing, and from there I went to Playstation, and even though went back to the NES and had a huge library of used games, while I did play Power Blade a handful of times, I played a lot of different games at the time, and as good as this one is, it wasn't one of my frequent go back and revisit on a regular basic type games. One thing I can say that I did frequent with this game is the soundtrack, probably one of my most listened to during those times I do on youtube.

While this one is easy to get into since gameplay is basic platforming and shooting, but with some bit of exploration, it has a moderate level of challenge, yet is still easy to die with all of the enemies and pitfalls. Each stage is about the same level of difficulty, not too easy, but not too hard, difficulty comes with certain sections offering a more challenging jump or dangerous foe. I sort of remembered bits and pieces of each stage, mostly where the contacts would be to get the IDs to open the boss doors, though forgot a little bit as it had been many years and again, some familiarity with the game but not as much as games I've played far more.

So, this wasn't a very good playthrough, but my first time with the keyboard and did okay I thinks, but certainly if I were to play again I would do much better next time. With experience and learning comes better skills and knowledge and thus, better gaming. But right now, not so much interested in trying for my glory days of game conquering as I am just playing something different from my usual handful of games, a bit of nostalgia maybe, will see.
