Join me on Part 4 of my solo canoe expedition through Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, continuing east along the legendary Bloodvein River as storms chase me for miles. This episode is packed with wild weather, ancient rock art, and the raw solitude that defines true wilderness travel.
Pushing hard downriver, I battled fast-moving storm systems until I was forced to take refuge in an abandoned fishing camp—a shelter that likely prevented a dangerous open-water crossing on Larus Lake. Once the storms finally passed, I paddled into a rare and beautiful stretch of the Bloodvein, where I discovered another incredible pictograph panel, a reminder of the deep cultural history along this iconic waterway.
I ended the day wind-pinned on Knox Lake, unsure whether I’d be windbound the next morning on the small island where I set up camp. The combination of isolation, unpredictability, and rugged beauty made this one of the most memorable days of the entire journey.
If you love remote canoe tripping, backcountry adventure, pictographs, and the unfiltered reality of wilderness travel—this episode is for you.
