Our Owner and Managing Attorney, Rachel Kelley, explains an important question we hear often:
👉 Does my ex’s new spouse’s income affect child support or alimony?
Here’s the truth:
💡 If your ex is remarried, their new spouse’s income does not impact child support calculations in Michigan.
Child support is based only on the parents’ income — not the new spouse’s.
However, that new income could become relevant if you have a spousal support award.
If your ex now has someone contributing to their household expenses, that change in financial circumstances might be a reason for the court to reconsider your spousal support order.
Because spousal support cases can be complex, it’s always best to consult with an attorney before making any changes. 💙
