After 500,000KM and 25 years of hard use, my Prado 90’s suspension was well past its prime—clunks, knocks, and worn-out components everywhere. So, in this video, I give the old rig a much-needed suspension refresh, replacing key parts to bring back its ride quality and handling.
Since I don’t have access to a press or a mechanic, I opted for the easier, DIY-friendly method: replacing the full lower control arm units rather than pressing in new bushes. Along the way, I also tackle a key failure item on the Prado 90 Series—the front lower ball joints—a crucial fix to avoid catastrophic failure.
🚙 What Gets Replaced?
✅ Front & rear lower control arms – fresh bushings & stronger mounts
✅ Front lower ball joints – preventing one of the Prado’s biggest failure points
✅ Full test drive – confirming that all the annoying knocks & clunks are GONE!
Did it work? Watch as I take the freshly upgraded Prado for a test drive, seeing if these replacements have restored the ride quality after half a million kilometers of wear and tear. Spoiler alert: it drives like new!
💬 Drop a comment: Have you done suspension work on an older Prado 90 or other high-mileage 4WDs? What’s your go-to approach—press in new bushes or replace the whole unit? Let’s talk!
