What Makes Game Characters UGLY

These days, a lot of people seem to be pushing back against Western games with character designs they think are ugly. Some folks are even saying everyone needs their eyes checked and claiming there's nothing wrong with the designs. But it feels like most gamers - or at least the loud ones onlinE- are saying these new designs look weird and not appealing at all. It got me thinking: what is it about these newer designs or models that’s turning people off?

What actually makes a character "ugly"? Is it just their appearance? And is it really just the characters making these newer games less appealing?
