Kayaking Scotlands Roof Series Finale: Sheigra to Scourie Via Handa's "Playground"
Episode 8
Day 8, We pack for the final time of this incredible eight day expedition. Paddling Scotlands North Coast ("The Roof")
Continuing due South, in the increased sea state from yesterday, down the West coast, through the Black Skerries to Rubha Ruadh (The Red Peninsula). Then follow the coast to Tarbert for lunch. Afterwards, heading West through the Sound of Handa's skerries to the NorthEast corner of Handa. Where we travel anticlockwise around the island, heading along its amazingly beautiful North coast to the impressive 'Great Stack', navigating the tunnel through from the NW, to explore behind Great Stack, before continuing down the West side.
Conditions had become more dramatic with the unhindered sea conditions breaking randomly with huge clapotis lifting over the flat submerged random slabs that make up the seabed on the island's West Side. This produced a spectacular playground but great care was required to ensure our fully loaded kayaks didn't come to grief on the shallow rock slabs!!
We all had great fun navigating our way through the many gullies that exist all along the West coast.
Leaving the South West corner we made our way acrid the sound in a straight line SE to complete our entire 8 days landing at Scourie.

An absolutely stunning trip in challenging conditions but a playful day nonetheless and a perfect way to end an incredible 8 day journey in the excellent company of a very capable and talented special set of friends. Thanks guys, a superb, top draw expedition every day !!
