Composer Param Vir discusses Arnold Schoenberg in honour of the 150th anniversary of Arnold Schoenberg's birth (September 13, 1874), we celebrate his legacy and rich musical heritage. Schoenberg was a pioneer of modernism, with music that transported his contemporaries to celestial worlds. The founder of the twelve-tone composition method, which brought about change to modernism in music, later growing into serialism, has rightly been referred to as a conservative revolutionary.
This video was filmed ahead of BCMG's Lunar Dreams concert, featuring Schoenberg's iconic Pierrot Lunaire alongside two pieces by Param Vir and other works. BCMG will be giving the world premiere of Param Vir's own 12 tone piece for Flute and Piano, written in Mumbai when Param was only 17.
