Montemayor (also known as Romance de los Pinos), from Moreno Torroba’s (1891-1982) Castillos de España, describes a castle near Córdoba. This memorable tone poem musically describes the ancient battle of Munda that was staged in this plains overlooked by the fourteenth-century fortress.
Alba de Tormes, presents an improvisational dialogue between the bass melody and impressionistic treble harmonies. Inspired by the ruined seat of the Dukes of Alba and burial place of Saint Teresa de Avila near Salamanca.
