Hi all!
Welcome back to a new video. Today, we take a look at what many claim ti be one of Europe’s best LCC’s, Norwegian Air Shuttle.
Our journey begins at Edinburgh Airport, where as usual I had no bags to drop and a mobile boarding pass, so I proceeded straight up and through security. The airport was fairly steady being mid Sunday morning in January, so not overwhelmingly crowded, but plenty of passengers nonetheless. I grabbed a bite ti eat at Pret and had a quick wander before being called to a very busy gate area as many flights where going out from there at the same time. Boarding was a little delayed due to the late inbound arrival from Olso. DY board by group letter (A-C) and of course being on a basic fare ticket, I was one of the last to board, in Group C.
Once onboard, I took my seat in 6A, which has a nice wing/engine view. One thing I noticed was how thick the seats were, quite rare on most DY aircraft but more comfortable however. We pushed back promptly and the captain explained the delay was due to de-icing in Oslo as a result of the snow - we would see just how much when we landed! We departed from RWY24 in EDI and quickly turned right to face Northeast, heading for the North Sea.
The crew quickly got to work with the buy-onboard service but I wasn’t to hungry so didn’t purchase anything, though I did think the prices weren’t too bad. Of course I had to check out Norwegian’s WiFi, which I only used the free basic WiFi, which lets you scroll the DY website and you can surf the web for 15 minutes. A great feature of this however was the flight tracker and destination info which is really nice to have that on your personal device. As we crossed over the North Sea, we could see many ships and oil rigs before the snow-filled clouds rolled in as we approached Norway and eventually descended through very thick clouds, approaching OSL from the North. We broke through just before touch down, revelling the extent of the snowfall - a bit precarious when you aren’t used to it! However we landed smoothly and had a a short taxi to our stand at the domestic pier. Due to weight and balance issues, deboarding was a bit of a faff, but we had nowhere to be so I wasn’t bothered. We had to trudge outside in the deep snow to board a coach to International arrivals, which is I’d find quite cool, thankfully I had appropriate footwear on!
Overall, I was extremely impressed with Norwegian A/S. Their onboard service was very warm and friendly, and the wifi is a great addition for a low cost carrier. The whole experience from start to end felt more welcoming than other LCC’s I’ve been on. I’d definitely fly them again if I had them as an option.
