"It's 2026 and life is getting better in South Africa. Meet Nosipho, Feziswa, and Thabo; neighbours who have seen their lives improve since the government introduced a basic income grant, or BIG, for everyone who needs it."
With these words the scene is set for a 4-minute long animated video, released by the Institute for Economic Justice (IEJ), that shows how a basic income grant will give ordinary South Africans the power to improve their lives. The video shows the positive impacts of a basic income on three previously struggling South Africans and their communities.

A basic income grant (BIG) is a government commitment to provide a regular minimum income to meet people's basic needs.
A BIG has many social and economic benefits. It fosters development, employment and sustainable livelihoods. A BIG also enhances societal well-being by improving health and education outcomes, fostering social cohesion, and promoting women's economic empowerment.
Our vision is for life to be better for all South Africans. We can achieve that with a basic income grant (BIG).
More funds in excluded communities means more spending power to support local traders and for more community-based businesses to sprout.
A BIG alongside improved social services can help to grow the economy, end poverty and promote inclusive development.
