Gandikota Fort, often called the "Grand Canyon of India," is a historic fort located in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. It was built in the 13th century by the Kakatiya dynasty and later came under the rule of various dynasties including the Vijayanagara Empire, the Qutub Shahis, and the Nawabs of Kadapa. The fort is renowned for its strong granite walls, ancient temples, a mosque, and a royal pavilion. It's a striking blend of Hindu and Islamic architecture.

The fort is perched on the edge of the Penna River Gorge, where the river cuts through the Erramala hills, creating a dramatic and scenic canyon with steep cliffs. This natural gorge, formed by erosion over millions of years, offers breathtaking views and is what gives Gandikota its nickname. The view from the fort overlooking the deep gorge is especially famous and attracts photographers, trekkers, and history enthusiasts alike.
