Finding their way through Boston's underground music scene, House of Harm has quickly gained attention for their ability to balance intense punk with melodic tension, creating deliciously macabre post-punk. Drawing inspiration from classic C86 bands, early 4AD (i.e. This Mortal Coil, Clan of Xymox, Cocteau Twins), and 2000s post-punk, House of Harm is the definition of darkwave. On their debut album ‘Vicious Pastimes’ (2020), the sounds of shuddering synth arpeggios, icy textures, and themes of longing, memory, and escape immerse listeners in an atmosphere that curls like smoke. In 2023, they released their sophomore LP, ‘Playground,’ a confident leap forward in songwriting and production that expanded the band’s emotional and sonic palette. While performing on Audiotree Live, House of Harm is unafraid to blend bright and bleak, tailoring darkwave to cover everything from eccentric synthpop to hard rock. During their interview with Audiotree Host, Jason Nitts, the band chats about Boston’s music scene, their musical influences, and the time they wrote 75 songs for just one album.
